The Pharaohs international is set to compete for the coveted title with his club teammates and the Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk as well as striker Sadio Mane of Senegal.

FIFA have announced the official 10-man shortlist for The Best Fifa Men’s Player of the Year award, which was selected by a panel of FIFA legends.
Although the 2018 accolade was handed to Croatia and Real Madrid’s Luka Modric ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, Salah could only secure a third finish.
Salah had a superb 2018 where he helped the Reds to a second finish in the English Premier League, led Egypt to the 2018 FIFA World Cup as well as lifting the UEFA Champions League with manager Jurgen Klopp’s troops.
In addition, the former AS Roma winger has managed to make the list for the second year in a row after winning the Premier League top scorer award and guiding his club to a historic Champions League title.
Meanwhile, club teammates Mane and Premier League Player of the Year van Dijk were also among the nominees alongside former Ajax duo Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, former Chelsea and now Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard and Paris Saint Germain star Kylian Mbappe have also made the cut as nominees.
As usual, five-time Ballon d’Or winners Lionel Messi of Argentina and Barcelona and Juventus hitman Ronaldo were also included in the list, unlike Luka Modric, who is a notable absentee among the nominees.
According to the world’s football governing body, fans will have the chance to vote for their top three players and the result of this vote will then be combined with the votes of other key members of the footballing community, journalists and national team coaches and captains.
Meanwhile, the award winner will be revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Italy, Milan on Monday, September 23.
