LONDON – Kenya, and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama is set to join English Premier League side FC Bournemouth ahead of the 2019/20 EPL season.
This comes after the Cherries have reportedly signaled an intention to land the Harambee Stars international.
Media reports emanating from London indicate that Bournemouth is reportedly after the services of the Kenyan captain, who returned to North London but suffered an injury.
According to The Daily Mail, the Kenyan skipper is a player Bournemouth are keen to sign before the English Premier League season gets underway next weekend.
In addition, Wanyama has been out-of-favour at Spurs under manager Mauricio Pochettino and has just played 22 matches across all competitions in the previous campaign.
Despite reporting to the team’s training camp as they prepare for the eagerly anticipated season, he missed the 2019 Audi Cup victory over German Bundesliga side Bayern Munich through to injury.
Moreover, the club’s official website reported that Wanyama is suffering from irritation in his knee after training last Monday and remained in London to be assessed.
The injury setback for Wanyama comes at a time when he is fighting to keep his place in the Spurs’ squad ahead of the new season.
On the other hand, the arrival of new signing Tanguy Ndombele has seen the 28-year-old drop down the pecking order and his place in the side now looks in doubt.
With Spurs already having Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier who all look more likely to start ahead of him in the coming season, Wanyama could find a new football home.
Meanwhile, reports in the English suggest that West Ham United, Galatasaray have also joined the race to land the Kenyan’s signature.
