AFTER his wife, Annie, opened up on his health conditions recently, Nigerian music icon, 2face Idibia, has shown he is fit and in good health.
He is presently increasing the tempo of the celebration of his 20 years musical journey in Europe.
One of his top publicists, who pleaded anonymity, had dispelled the rumours of the health concerns in a chat with Star Magazine. The source even hinted that the musician performed at a musical event in London recently before the European tour.
The musician kicked off his ‘20 Years A King Europe’ tour from August 28 and it has taken him to some European countries. The musical star is scheduled to perform at Berlin, Frankfurt, Essen, Zurich, Torino, Vienna, Goteborg and Malta during the period.
The Europe tour commenced in Malta on August 28 and will end in Torino, Italy, on September 8. In Germany, 2Baba headlined the Nollywood Europe Golden Award in Frankfurt on August 31 and performed at the prestigious Columbia Theatre in Berlin on September 1. On September 7, he will return to Germany again to entertain his fans in Essen.
Since 1999 when he emerged on the scene, Idibia has defined African hip-hop music with his unique voice and style and his popularity just keeps growing as a singer, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur.
The 43-year-old Afrobeats legend, whose genres include R&B, hip-hop, reggae gospel and Afropop, has created his unique musical style.
He has received numerous awards in the music industry, including one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, one MOBO award and other African and Nigerian Awards.
At one of the celebrations on Sunday, one of Berlin’s most prestigious event locations – the hall of Columbia Theatre – was filled to the brim with Africans, Germans and others, who had gathered to see the musician perform live.
It was a case of beautiful music all through, danced to enthusiastically by the crowd.
2Face Baba appeared on the stage when it seemed everybody was getting tired of dancing and he immediately energized the crowd. The crooner was welcomed by the crowd with loud applause and they responded to his calls from the stage with such enthusiastic sing-along choruses.
In an Instagram post, Tuface’s wife had claimed the musicians was on the sick bed and under doctor’s supervision over his health condition for 48 hours.
She, however, thanked God for granting him the strength to make it for his recent appointment by Nigerian Stock Exchange, even as she wished her heartthrob speedy recovery.
“Incredible human, so Baba has been ill, on drips and plenty medications. Doctors were by his side for 48hours!
“We all didn’t think he could make it to this big event that was all about him and the Nigerian stock exchange.
“Even with his voice and body shaking, the man got up told the doctor ‘Man I no go too dey, I no dey like cancel work matter and this one over important make I just drag body reach the event! He made it but back to his medications. Get well soon baby,” Annie wrote alongside a picture of Tuface.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) had appointed the music superstar as its ‘Good Cause Ambassador’.
Following the appointment, Tuface would lend his voice to raising awareness and mobilising support for the Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability initiatives of NSE geared towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Nigeria.
The ‘African Queen’ crooner was a member of the defunct Plantashun Boiz, who alongside groups like The Remedies, kick-started the Afro hip hop revolution of the late 90s that gave birth to what is today known as the Nigerian contemporary sound
Music watchers told Star Magazine he has paid his dues. In the past 43 years of his existence, the songster has inspired many young Nigerians with his kind of music. His popular hit-track, the “ African Queen”, was in praise of the African woman. He released it in 2004, under the Kenny Ogungbe’s Kennis Music label.
A commentator said yesterday about the musician: “He is one of the greatest artistes of this generation. Even when his contemporaries have fallen by the wayside, the superstar has remained standing, dishing out evergreen songs year after year.
